We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating the launch of Thompson Hall: Colour Is My Signature, the artist's first monograph.
Thompson Hall is a London-based artist whose colourful palette takes inspiration from artists including Althea McNish, Ronald Moody and Kehinde Wiley, to provide an acute commentary on urgent societal issues around race, inequality and social welfare. This new publication documents Hall's work in studios at both ActionSpace (where he is a Resident Artist) and Autograph (where he was artist in residence in 2022).
The launch event will start promptly with a long table discussion, featuring the artist in conversation with fellow contributors to the book. Following the short discussion there will be a drinks reception and book signing. The book will be available to purchase on the night with an exclusive 10% discount.

Thompson Hall is a London based artist. Through abstracted symbols and text, Hall’s work explores the inequalities of society and the world around him regarding politics, social change, marginalisation and, most recently, the impact that Covid-19 has had on our society.
Primarily working with acrylic paint and pastel drawings, Hall’s often colourful palette takes inspiration from artists including Althea McNish, Ronald Moody and Kehinde Wiley. Hall was awarded an Emerging Artist commission and a Micro Grant from Unlimited in 2017 and 2020. He has exhibited in group shows across the UK. He has also had solo exhibitions at Regency Town House in Hove, Brighton Dome, and Glasgow's Project Ability. Thompson Hall is a Resident Artist at ActionSpace. Find out more.
Sheryll is Artistic Director & CEO of ActionSpace, the London-based visual arts organisation that supports learning disabled artists to develop and sustain successful creative practices. She has worked in the cultural sector for over 30 years and is an advocate for greater diversity and inclusion within the sector. Sheryll is a Trustee of Outside In and a Member of the Partners Board supporting the Mayor of London’s Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm.
Livvy manages Autograph's digital content and learning and participation programmes. They supported Thompson Hall's residency at Autograph in 2022 and are a co-editor of Thompson Hall: Colour is my Signature.
Dr Mark Sealy OBE, RPS Outstanding Service Award; Executive Director of Autograph (1991 -) and Professor, Photography, Rights and Representation at University Arts London - London College of Communication. Sealy is interested in the relationship between art, photography and social change, identity politics, race, and human rights. He gained his PhD from Durham University, England.
He has written for many of the world’s leading photographic journals, produced numerous artist publications, curated exhibitions, and commissioned photographers and filmmakers worldwide. In addition, he is an advisor (management + committees) to several leading cultural institutions, including Tate, Paul Mellon Centre for the Studies in British Art, Art Fund, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, World Press Photo, and the International Centre of Photography in New York, USA.
Lawrence and Wishart have published Sealy’s critical writings on photography. Photography: Race, Rights and Representation, published 2022 and Decolonising the Camera: Photography in Racial Time, published 2019.
Linsey has held the position of Curator of British Contemporary Art at Tate Britain since 2016. In this role she has delivered commissions with artists such as Pablo Bronstein, Rachel Whiteread and Anthea Hamilton and is lead curator of the Turner Prize when it's held at Tate Britain.
She commissioned and curated Charlie Prodger’s presentation at the Venice Biennale in 2019 and in 2023 she curated the major exhibition and publication project Women In Revolt! exploring art and the women’s movement in the United Kingdom between 1970 and 1990.
