Artist Interview: Sunil Gupta

POSTED: 25 February 2021

Learn about Sunil Gupta's photography and activism, and how an Autograph commission in 1999 became the title of his retrospective more than 20 years later.

Subversive, impulsive, personal and political, artist Sunil Gupta's socially engaged projects have focused on such issues as family, race, migration and the complexities and taboos of sexuality and homosexual life. More than 20 years ago, Autograph commissioned Gupta to create a series of photographs From Here to Eternity – now the title of his retrospective at The Photographers' Gallery.

Watch Gupta discuss his early life and career, and the stories behind the images in the show.
